About Salary Codex
What it is
Salary Codex works out take-home pay, income tax, social contributions and employer cost for the United States and for European countries, each country in its own language and in English. You can start from a gross salary, from the net pay you want or from an employer’s budget, and every line of the result explains its formula and legal basis.
What you will find for each country
Every country has a take-home workbench, a net-to-gross calculator, an employer cost calculator and a methodology page. The workbench shows a chart of net pay across salaries, the path from gross to net, what-if scenarios and a year-on-year comparison, and you can save scenarios in your browser or share a link that reopens the exact calculation.
How the numbers are made
Every country is built from official texts: tax codes, withholding tables, social insurance laws, government decrees and the tax authorities’ own worked examples. Before a country goes live, its calculator is tested against those examples, against official tables or against the authority’s own calculator, and the tests are listed in that country’s methodology together with what is not included yet. The data sources page lists every document we use.
Keeping up to date
Pay rules change several times a year. The rule monitor at the top of each page shows changes that are announced or already in force, each with a link to the official source, and the calculators are updated when the changes take effect.
Independence and privacy
There is no advertising and no paid placement on the site. Calculations run in your browser: we do not store your salary or any other figure you enter, and we use no cookies, analytics or tracking. The privacy policy has the details.
