How we calculate Greek net pay
The calculator applies the Ministry of National Economy and Finance's codification of the Income Tax Code, the new scale of Law 5246/2025 as presented by the Ministry, and e-EFKA circulars on contributions — see data sources.
EFKA contributions
For the usual private-sector employee (coverage package 101) the employee pays 13.37% and the employer 21.79%, since health contributions were cut on 1 January 2025. Contributions are charged up to the maximum insurable earnings: €7,761.94 a month in 2026 and €7,572.62 in 2025. The same rate applies to the bonuses and holiday allowance.
The tax scale
In 2026 the scale is 9% up to €10,000, 20% up to €20,000, 26% up to €30,000, 34% up to €40,000, 39% up to €60,000 and 44% above. With children the €10,000–20,000 rate becomes 18%, 16% or 9% for one, two or three children, the €20,000–30,000 rate falls by 2 points per child, and with four or more children the first €20,000 is untaxed. People up to 25 pay 0% up to €20,000 and people aged 26 to 30 pay 9%. In 2025 the scale was 9%, 22%, 28%, 36% and 44% in €10,000 bands.
Tax reduction
The article 16 reduction comes off the tax on the scale: €777 with no children, €900 with one, €1,120 with two, €1,340 with three, €1,580 with four and €1,780 with five. Above €12,000 of taxable income it shrinks by €20 per €1,000, unless there are five or more children. It never exceeds the tax.
Withholding and 14 salaries
Monthly pay is annualised over 14 salaries: 12 months, the Christmas bonus (one salary), the Easter bonus and the holiday allowance (half a salary each). Taxable income is that annual amount less the employee's contributions; the annual tax is spread evenly over every payment. You can also choose 12 salaries. The solidarity contribution has not been withheld since 2023.
Employer cost
Employer cost is gross pay plus the employer's contributions of 21.79% up to the same ceiling.
