How we calculate Slovak net pay

The calculator follows the payroll of an employee in a standard employment relationship for the whole year, with one employer and the same pay every month. The rules come from the Income Tax Act and the social and health insurance acts as in force on 1 January 2025 and 2026, and from the Financial Administration and the Social Insurance Agency — see data sources.

Social insurance

Employees pay 9.4% of gross pay: sickness 1.4%, old-age 4%, disability 3% and unemployment 1%, each rounded down to the cent. It is charged on a monthly base of at most €16,764 (€15,730 in 2025), 11 times the average wage.

Health insurance

Employees pay 5% of gross pay (4% in 2025), employers 11%; there is no ceiling. The annual health insurance reconciliation changes nothing when pay is the same all year.

Tax advance

Taxable pay is gross pay minus employee contributions and minus 1/12 of the personal allowance (€497.23) when the employee has signed the declaration. From 2026 it is taxed at 19% up to 1/12 of €43,983.32, 25% up to 1/12 of €60,349.21, 30% up to 1/12 of €75,010.32 and 35% above; in 2025 the rates were 19% and 25% above 1/12 of €48,441.43. The limits are multiples of the subsistence minimum.

Personal allowance and annual settlement

The annual allowance is €5,966.73 for a base up to €26,083.13; above it, €14,661.11 minus a third of the base (in 2025, €12,110.36 minus a quarter of the base above €25,426.27). Employers always apply the full twelfth in the advances, so higher earners pay extra in the annual settlement — the calculator shows that difference.

Child tax bonus

€100 a month for each child under 15 and €50 for each aged 15 to 18, but no more than 29% (one child) to 64% (six or more) of the partial tax base. When the partial base exceeds 1.5 times the average wage (€2,286 a month), the bonus for each child is cut by a tenth of the excess. It is paid even beyond the tax.

Employer cost

Employers pay 25.2% social insurance (sickness 1.4, old-age 14, disability 3, unemployment 0.5, short-time work support 0.5, guarantee 0.25, solidarity reserve fund 4.75 and accident 0.8%, the last with no ceiling) and 11% health insurance.
