Scottish Income Tax bands 2026/27
Rates and limits from the Scottish Rate Resolution, as applied by HMRC. Limits are amounts of taxable income; the salary column assumes the full Personal Allowance.
| Band | Rate | Taxable income | Salary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal Allowance | 0% | — | up to £12,570 |
| Starter | 19% | £0 – £3,967 | £12,571 – £16,537 |
| Basic | 20% | £3,967 – £16,956 | £16,538 – £29,526 |
| Intermediate | 21% | £16,956 – £31,092 | £29,527 – £43,662 |
| Higher | 42% | £31,092 – £62,430 | £43,663 – £75,000 |
| Advanced | 45% | £62,430 – £125,140 | £75,001 – £125,140 |
| Top | 48% | £125,140+ | £125,140+ |
The top rate starts at £125,140 of taxable income whatever your Personal Allowance: the Scottish Government's explanatory note confirms the allowance is not relevant to that limit, because it has fully tapered away by then.
